Drain Unclogging Hacks that You Can Use Anytime

Having a clogged drain is a nightmare for any homeowner. It can be the cause of contamination and foul smell. When confronted with this problem, the first thing to do is to contact an expert plumber to do drain unblocking.

But if you or anyone in your home can do this task? Here are some hacks that you can use in drain unblocking:

A kettleful of boiling water – Boiling water can sometimes be enough to clear the drain pipe. Pour it into the pipe and let it sit there for some minutes. Then use a plunger.

Use bent wire hanger – Get a coat hanger, straighten it and bend one end to form a hook. Push it into the drain then start removing the food debris, hair, dead skin and other particles that have been accumulated on the pipe walls. You can also use drain auger for this task.

Dish detergent solution – For clogged toilet bowls and sinks, pour 1/4 cup dish detergent in the bowl and let it sit for some minutes. This solution can loosen greasy residue. Afterwards, pour boiling water and use a plunger. If plunging doesn’t work, use rubber gloves to remove the blockage.

Salt and baking soda. Mix 1/2 cup table salt and 1/2 cup baking soda then dispense it into the blocked drain. Let it sit for a while then flush it with boiling water. The mixture will cause a chemical reaction that can dissolve some accumulated debris.

Baking soda and vinegar – Mix 1/3 cup baking soda and 1/3 cup vinegar. Pour this solution at once whilst it is still fizzing. Let it penetrate the clog for an hour, or better yet, overnight. Then flush it with boiling water.

Caustic soda – This is the most potent solution for drain unblocking. But you must wear rubber gloves first to avoid damaging your skin. Pour 3 cups of caustic soda to 3/4 gallon of cold water then stir. Pour the mixture whilst it is still bubbling and heating up. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes then flush it with boiling water.
